Dollywood’s Fried Green Tomatoes
Ingredients6 green tomatoes (sliced into 6 slices each)
**5 lb cornmeal
**1 lb all purpose flour
1 package tempura batter
salt (to taste)
black pepper (to taste)
white pepper (to taste)
garlic (to taste)
hot sauce (to taste)
Preheat oil to 350 degrees in either a deep fryer or a cast iron skillet. Mix tempura batter according to the package instructions. Add black pepper, white pepper, hot sauce and garlic. Mix cornmeal and flour together. Add black pepper and salt. Dip tomato slices in tempura batter and then dredge tomatoes in cornmeal mixture until coated evenly. Drop tomato slices into hot oil until golden brown. If using a deep fryer the tomatoes will float when they are done. When frying in a cast iron skillet turn after the first side browns. Repeat for the other side.
